August 25, 2009 Bart joined ING DIRECT in May 2011 as Chief Risk Officer overseeing the bank’s Legal and Compliance team as well as market, credit and operational risk. Prior to joining ING DIRECT Australia, Bart held several management positions within ING Group in India and Amsterdam and most recently was Chief Risk Officer at TMB Bank, the sixth largest bank in Thailand and part owned by ING.   At ING Group in Amsterdam, Bart was responsible for the Basel II Program as well as the development of credit models and Economic Capital for Credit Risk and Country Risk. After holding senior positions in major financial institutions in nine countries since 1984 - including Singapore, South Korea and Indonesia - Bart is glad to be back in Australia which he and his family call “home”. Bart believes the role of a CRO has become even more relevant. As a result of Basel II, the GFC and now Basel III, having a sound risk management framework and governance aligned with corporate strategy and business planning creates a true competitive advantage.
