{"id":958,"date":"2011-09-02T01:44:14","date_gmt":"2011-09-01T15:44:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsroom.ing.com.au\/?p=958"},"modified":"2016-08-30T14:28:59","modified_gmt":"2016-08-30T04:28:59","slug":"ing-direct-australia-delivers-strong-half-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsroom.ing.com.au\/ing-direct-australia-delivers-strong-half-year\/","title":{"rendered":"ING DIRECT Australia Delivers Strong Half Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>1 September 2011: ING DIRECT Australia today announced a net profit after tax of $161.9 million for the 6 months to June 30 2011, up 22% on the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p>The record half year profit was delivered with strong growth in savings and a strengthening in the bank\u2019s financial position.<\/p>\n<p>CEO, Don Koch, said the result was achieved in an environment of increased competition and a slowdown in credit growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe increased profit is backed by a strengthening of the bank\u2019s balance sheet and is evidence of ING DIRECT\u2019s strategy of achieving sustainable growth,\u201d Mr Koch said.<\/p>\n<p>The sustainable growth strategy includes deepening customer relationships and broadening the bank\u2019s product range.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe specialise in offering innovative service to customers across home loans, savings and transactional account products,\u201d Mr Koch said.<\/p>\n<p>Key Results for 2011:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Year on year retail savings growth of 22% to more than $25 billion<\/li>\n<li>$400 million in new home loan growth since December- $37 billion portfolio<\/li>\n<li>1.45 million customers<\/li>\n<li>No. 1 bank Customer Satisfaction*<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mr. Koch said the ING DIRECT balance sheet has continued to strengthen with total retained profits reaching $1.4 billion.<\/p>\n<p>ING DIRECT\u2019s regulatory capital ratio increased from 14.4% at the end of 2010 to 15.2%.<\/p>\n<p>ING DIRECT has seen a number of Board changes during the period with Michael Katz becoming Chairman and Ann Sherry and Amanda Lacaze joining the Board.<\/p>\n<p>*Nielsen Financial Services Monitor<\/p>\n<p><strong>Media contact:<\/strong><br \/>\nDavid Breen, ING DIRECT<br \/>\nPh: 0412 933 060<br \/>\nEmail: <a href=\"mailto:david.breen@ingdirect.com.au\">david.breen@ingdirect.com.au<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>About ING DIRECT<\/strong><br \/>\nING DIRECT began operating in Australia in 1999.
