ING joins forces with TripAdvisor to help Aussies unlock cheaper travel experiences

  • Aussies are spending big on travel – The average leisure traveller is willing to spend $7,310 on a two-week international holiday.
  • Smart holiday budgeting – Travellers allocate the biggest shares of their budgets to flights and transfers (27%) and accommodation (26%), followed by food and dining (20%) and activities (17%).
  • Travel costs on the rise – More than half (54%) of returning international travellers say they’ve spent more on transfers in their latest trip, with many also upping spend on accommodation (49%) and activities (44%).

ING Australia has announced a partnership with TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel guidance platform, offering a 20% discount on travel experiences when travelling overseas to select locations.

This collaboration comes as new ING research reveals the average two-week international holiday budget has increased by 19% in the past year, following an increase of 35% the year before, with Aussies now expecting to spend $7,310 on their next trip.

While flights and transfers (27%) and accommodation (26%) consume over half of this expanded budget, 17% is allocated to activities, experiences and attractions. This is precisely where the ING and TripAdvisor partnership aims to deliver tangible savings, and help Aussies maximise value on their next trip.

ING’s Head of Consumer and Market Insights, Matt Bowen, comments:

“Australians’ passion for international travel is undeniable, and they are willing to invest significantly in creating unforgettable memories, even as costs rise. Saving for a holiday continues to be one of the most popular financial goals, and ING has been helping Aussies get there sooner through our high interest savings accounts.

“Yet with nearly half (44%) of Australians reporting that they spent more on activities and attractions on their last trip compared to another international holiday they’ve had in the last 3 years. This could indicate that while the cost of travel is soaring, the desire for rich experiences is increasing regardless, showing a real desire among Aussie travellers for memorable returns on investments.

“In addition to no ING international transaction fees for Orange Everyday account holders*, our new partnership with TripAdvisor is now another way Aussies can get more bang for their buck when travelling.”

The 20% discount on TripAdvisor experiences directly addresses this increasing spend on memorable experiences, enabling Aussies to enjoy more tours, excursions, and unique activities for less.

The partnership reinforces ING Australia’s commitment to helping its customers get more out of life, offering practical solutions that enhance their financial well-being and lifestyle. The 20% discount will be available for bookings made on TripAdvisor for experiences in select international destinations including US, New Zealand, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand.
